Planning your field trip to the museum

Along with the Tavern Show and guided visit to Ethan and Fanny Allen’s historic 1785 Homestead choose one or two of the enhanced activities listed depending on your class size.  Smaller classes of 10 to 30 students choose 1 additional activity.  Larger groups of 30 to 40 students choose 2 additional activities.

Book early and provide two possible field trip dates.  Grades K-3 can substitute another activity for the tavern show.  Please arrive promptly.  Our educators will be expecting you.  We have plenty of free vehicle and bus parking.  Visits last about 1½ to 2 hours.

The Tavern Show covers early Vermont history, the Green Mountain Boys, and our state’s founder Ethan Allen and his wife Fanny.  The show helps tell the story of how Ethan and his family came to settle along the Winooski River at the Homestead.

Teachers should arrive with their class divided into groups of around 10 each.  Teacher and parent chaperones should plan to participate in the activities.

Cost for your visit

$3 per student and parent chaperons.  Teachers and school aides are free.  Larger groups of more than 40 students require an additional $45 charge.  Check or cash payment is due upon arrival.  A confirmation will be sent upon booking and a reminder call precedes your visit.

***Programs tied to Vermont Standards in history and social studies. 6.1, 2d, 3-8, 13-19, 7.1, 2, and 6.47; 7.1,2*******
